Maison
La Paresse en Douce lies on the outskirts of the village of Tours
sur Meymont (623m) between the picturesque foothills of the Monts
du Livradois and the gorges of the river Dore. Our ‘maison d’hôtes’
is a sturdy, large period property which dates back to the 17th century
and was originally a monastery. In the 19th century a notary set
up a practice here, but later the house reverted to a private residence.
Many original details have been uncovered during the renovation:
old doors and fittings, sinks, a cellar, a chapel and secret hatches;
all of this is surrounded by extremely thick walls. These authentic
features have been enhanced by the sympathetic renovation that now
offers a simple rural interior design which creates a warm and pleasant
atmosphere.
The lounge is the former notary’s office. Here you can relax, read
a book, watch television, play the piano, have an aperitif etc. On
cold days we will light the fire. Adjacent to this you will find the chapel which we have equipped
as a library.
If the weather is not too good we will serve breakfast and dinner
in the dining room which has a large table that is also suitable
for reading a magazine or playing games.
The house has a large garage (where motor bikes can be stored).
The total length of our premises is nearly 60 metres and behind this
is the walled garden. The garden has several terraces. The nearest
to the house is where we usually serve breakfast and dinner. There
is a higher situated sun terrace and a small cosy terrace with panoramic
views – on clear days you can see the Puy de Dome!
Did you ever take a hot bath out under the stars or in the snow? During the whole year, except July and August, you can have a nice warm bath in our outdoor, firewood-heated hot tub. The combination of warm water, fresh air and a pleasant atmosphere will make disappear stress and tiredness.
